Does Jesus Understand?

Yes! David makes this clear in Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 

This is David’s testimony. His heart was broken. His spirit was crushed.  Similarly, Jesus understands trauma. Isaiah describes his experience in Isaiah 53:3. 
He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 

This verse is part of a prophecy about Jesus’s suffering on earth. This suffering included being betrayed by Judas and being condemned by his own people to die a terrible death on the cross. Jesus understands what you are going through. He endured even greater pain than you are or have. 

​He is a man of sorrows, so he understands your sorrow.  He is acquainted with grief so that he can identify with your grief. In your deepest sorrow and pain, He is close to you. You may not feel that because of your grief, but it is true. You do not need to feel it to pray. The prayer of faith is not based on feeling. It is based on the knowledge that God’s Word is Truth. Thank Him today for his closeness. Thank Him for understanding your situation.
