SWIRLS OF NURTURE

Sometimes I feel like a creator, sometimes I feel like a teacher,  sometimes I feel like a worshipper,
sometimes I just feel three worlds swirling, colliding, morphing into new worlds . .
. . . yet with each swirl the need to nurture . . .
. . . nurture midst fragile creations, vulnerable artists, emotive questioning soundscapes, wondering and wandering thoughts, midst a church wondering how to create in the image of the One who created all.

FEELING FORGOTTEN?

With all that is happening, I have asked myself, “With more than seven billion people in the world does God really remember me? Does God care about all the people that are dying from COVID-19? Are the massive numbers just numbers, or does God really know each person, each family, each situation?”
God has been answering these questions for me with this amazing Bible passage.
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.  Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. Psalm 147:4-5

Astronomers estimate that the observable universe has more than 100 billion galaxies. Our own Milky Way galaxy is home to around 300 billion stars. Astronomers estimate the universe contains 70 billion trillion (7 x 1022) stars.  That is 7 with 21 zeros.  7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
I can’t really understand such a large number.  But I do know that our world’s population is a very small number compared to the number of stars in the universe.  Someone has suggested that the number of stars in the universe is similar to the number of drops of water in the ocean. If this is true, and we compare the two numbers, then our world’s population would be equivalent to one drop!   If God has given all these stars a name, then he can certainly remember you and me!

But more importantly, this God is ‘our Lord’ and ‘his understanding is beyond measure’.  Take comfort, my brother or sister!  You are not forgotten.
