Lessons from a Cave - How long?

And David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the wilderness of Ziph. . 1 Samuel 23:14
Our keyword today is ‘remained.’ When David wrote Psalm 13 he had no idea how long he would need to remain in the wilderness.  Like most of us today, he asked the question “How long?”
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? Psalms 13:1-2 (A psalm of David)
But it is only when waiting seems to be an eternity that trust and intimacy with God are built up.  As soon as we know how long, we begin to move away from dependency on God.  We begin to trust in our actions to make the difference. We fill our time and our minds with our plans. We spend less time praying, reading His Word, and listening. Slowly our attention wanes.
Like you, I want to know “How long?”  But now, while God has my full attention, I want to develop habits of prayer and bible study that will last.  I hope you want the same.
