Stage 2 of the Grief Journey - Pain and Guilt

As the initial shock starts to fade, you may feel more pain. We often know how to deal with physical pain but may not know how to deal with emotional or spiritual pain.

Think of the pain in your heart as a heart wound.  Because a heart wound is invisible, you may not realize the importance of seeking help. You may feel it will take care of itself. It won’t!

My goal today is to encourage you to take the initiative to accept help. Similar to how God uses people in the physical realm, God uses pastors, Christian counsellors, grief specialists, prayer, songs and the Christian community in the emotional realm.

David described his heart pain and acknowledged his need for help.
I am poor and needy, and my heart is stricken within me.
I am gone like a shadow at evening; I am shaken off like a locust.
My knees are weak through fasting; my body has become gaunt, with no fat.
I am an object of scorn to my accusers;  when they see me, they wag their heads.
Help me, O LORD my God! Save me according to your steadfast love! Psalms 109:21-26
